MPNCA Overview

The Mt. Paran-Northside Citizens Association was organized in October 1984 as a nonprofit tax exempt corporation under the provisions of Section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code. Its area is bounded by Northside Drive on the east and I-75 on the west and extends from Nancy Creek on the south to Long Island Creek on the north. According to the Bylaws, the objectives and purposes of the Corporation are to organize the residents of the Area and other interested persons; to keep its members informed of the problems and needs of the Area; to promote a forum for their concerns relating to the Area; and to promote the interests and maintain the integrity of the Area.

The activities of MPNCA are governed primarily by the Board of Directors, which consists of between 8 - 30 voting members and officers.  Annual dues are set at the discretion of the Board of Directors and are presently $285.00 per household.

Officers serve one-year terms. The Board of Directors is divided into two groups. One group is elected to serve two-year terms in the alternating years, thus giving the Board a number of experienced members every year. The election of officers and Board members takes place at the Annual Meeting.

The Mt. Paran-Northside Citizens Association plays an important part in involving the community to monitor and improve the quality of life in our neighborhood. In addition to organizing and managing the Security Patrol, the Association takes an active part in the Neighborhood Planning Unit (NPU-A) along with representing neighborhood interests before zoning boards, the City Council, Fulton County Commission and various other government agencies and departments. Board members attend bimonthly meetings of the Zone 2 Citizens Advisory Committee and have formed a good working relationship with police personnel. The Association also monitors the actions of local government for decisions that affect our lives as citizens of Atlanta.

The Association includes more than 1,200 homes within our boundaries. The majority of the area is within the boundaries of the City of Atlanta with approximately 9% of the area within the City of Sandy Springs. One of the original goals of the Association was to keep the membership informed about current issues and events. To that end, the Association holds annual meetings, maintains an email grid and website, organizes seminars and forums on timely issues, conducts membership drives, and publishes the membership directory.

For neighbors who may not be aware of the history of the civic association, we have compiled a list of accomplishments, a historical narrative along with flyers and newsletters spanning the time period from 1984-2011.
